At Lakeview College, financial literacy isn’t just a curriculum add-on—it’s a key priority. Recognising that real-world money management skills are essential yet often overlooked, the school integrated Banqer High to equip students with practical tools for life beyond graduation. Through interactive modules that cover budgeting, insurance, renting, property ownership, and investment, Banqer High engages students in real-world scenarios that deepen their understanding and give them confidence in their financial decisions.
Building Practical, Real-World Financial Skills
For many students, discussions about money don’t happen at home. “The reality for a lot of our students is that money is not spoken about at home, or they're in a situation where money's a problem,” explains Chris Egan, Deputy Principal. Lakeview aims to break this cycle by helping students develop the skills to manage their finances confidently, covering a wide range of topics from super and insurance to renting, property ownership, and investing - topics that students can see they'll use in the near future.
I want our students to go out into the world and look back at the things they've put in place and think, Wow, it's so good that I've been able to get to a spot where I can make choices with money, that I can be comfortable with and that I'm not stressed about it.
Teacher Mitchell Salton highlights Banqer High’s impact across various learning outcomes: “Numeracy becomes more than just a math subject,” he shares. “It really grabs students’ attention because they know these are skills they’ll need when they eventually move out of home and stand on their own two feet.”
Engaging and Empowering Learning Experiences
The interactive, gamified design of Banqer High has brought financial learning to life for Lakeview students, who appreciate how the platform’s hands-on modules connect with their lives. One student shares how the budgeting module shifted their spending habits: “I spend a lot of money, so learning to budget with Banqer helped me keep track of what I need to pay off, how much I have left to spend, and what I can save. My parents were surprised by the change, and I’ve even saved enough to put down a deposit on a car.”
It's helped me feel more empowered to be able to think that I can do that by myself, instead of always leaning on my parents.
The program also introduced students to more advanced concepts, like investing. “The most interesting thing I learned in Banqer was investing,” another student says. “It made me realize that focusing on money can help me with what I want in the future.”
Through these experiences, students report feeling more prepared for financial challenges ahead. “Banqer High has set me up to know how I want to run my life in the future—school, housing, and being able to track how much I’ve earned,” says a third student. “It’s encouraging to see what I can achieve.”
A Commitment to Financial Confidence for Every Student
Lakeview College’s integration of Banqer High into its curriculum reflects a deep commitment to developing financially literate young adults. “Banqer High is easy to set up, easy to use, and makes learning fun,” teacher Anthony Cotroneo notes. “The impact on students has been overwhelmingly positive,” Chris concludes, “Students will love it, and you'll love it because it's going to teach you something, and you're going to enjoy that.”
