Year 5 Teacher

Brooke, a Year 5 teacher from Western Australia has been using Banqer in her classroom since 2020. She recognises the role financial education plays in setting students up for lifelong success.

“Regardless of the employment choices that students make, financial education allows them to make good choices with the money they have, over their entire lifetime.” Brooke originally managed a class money system and classroom jobs manually, but the introduction of Banqer streamlined her approach, making it more efficient and comprehensive.

Ease of Use for Educators

Brooke acknowledges that, like any new teaching tool, getting started with Banqer required an initial investment of time and effort. However, she found it immensely rewarding and beneficial in the long run. She appreciates the design of the platform, stating,

I think Banqer thought really carefully about platform usage from an educator's perspective. Doing those things through the Banqer platform is 1000 times easier than they ever were when I managed those things myself.

In line with the curriculum requirements, Year 5 students must learn how to create a simple financial plan. Brooke uses Banqer to teach her students how to allocate the money they earn within the platform and develop strategies to grow their funds. This hands-on approach allows students to directly link their financial planning skills to real-world scenarios, making the learning process both practical and engaging.

Fostering Engagement through a Student-Friendly Platform

The positive impact on students financial literacy was immediately evident from the conversations happening around the classroom.

Students in my class know why we pay tax. They understand what Superannuation is, they understand the importance of insurance, they know how to make choices about what goes in their savings account or in their everyday account or the purpose of a term deposit. They are financially literate students largely because of Banqer.

Brooke emphasizes that Banqer’s student-friendly interface significantly enhances student engagement. Her students eagerly log into Banqer, even when they don't have specific tasks to complete. They are particularly enthusiastic about unlocking new modules, which keeps them motivated and curious. “They love filling out the quizzes, they love checking their transactions, they love seeing their money grow.”

A highlight for students is the class auction, held twice each term using Banqer dollars. This event provides a fun and practical opportunity to spend their earned money, effectively teaching them about budgeting and wise spending. They love having the opportunity to spend their money in ways that they choose. It’s difficult to pinpoint one favourite aspect because they love everything about Banqer.
